Property detailed description
Nestled in the lovely Vezere Valley, just outside the village of Les Eyzies de Tayac, is the lovely Pigeonnier de Pecheyrou. Your fully equipped 1 bedroom, 1 bath holiday home has wonderful views of the valley and the surrounding cliffs. The world famous village of Les Eyzies is the regional center of prehistory. It’s an unspoiled area of great natural beauty with rolling hills, tranquil rivers and fascinating cliff and rock formations. Visit the many sites, then stroll down to the river (100 m) to enjoy a swim before relaxing on your terrace.
The traditional stone house has many walls of exposed stone, beamed ceilings, and floors of wood and tile. The main floor is comprised of a kitchen, dining/living room, and the bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, pots, utensils, and linens. The dining area has an antique farm table. The upstairs has the 1 bedroom, which includes all linens. There is a lovely window which looks out onto the meadow.
Les Eyzies is the home to the National Prehistory Museum which houses one of the world’s most complete collections of prehistoric artifacts. It was also in this village that CroMagnon man was discovered, as well as the cave paintings at Fond de Gaume, one of the last remaining prehistoric cave-painting sites worldwide still open to the public. A marvel, because its paintings are 15,000 years old! The cave-lined Vezere valley has been classified as a heritage site by UNESCO. It has some of the world’s most beautiful caves with outstanding stalactite and stalagmite crystallizations.
After exploring the prehistoric sites, you can move up the time line to Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance periods. The amazing variety of sites to see, from the Roman ruins in Perigueux, to the medieval castles and strong holds, to the lovely Renaissance castles, all are within an easy drive from the house. The lively market in Sarlat, a well preserved medieval village, will delight you with the many flavors and crafts of the region. You will be amazed at the numbers of quaint stone villages that appear to be plucked from another age.

The Perigord Region is famous for it’s gastronomic pleasures. There are many good restaurants in the area where you can enjoy the many local specialties: canard, pate de foie gras, omelet of cepes, truffles, and walnut cake. Accompany each meal with the local Bergerac or Bordeaux wines! A real delight!

The energetic can find golf courses, canoe on the rivers Dordogne or Vezere, lovely hiking and biking, and horse riding. The Children can enjoy the local aquarium and the village de Bournat, a reconstructed 19th c village.

The Dordogne offers something for everyone in the family. A wonderful place to visit, relax, and explore!
