Marmion is a spacious and well equipped Victorian house situated in the centre of the village of Fylingthorpe and only ten minutes walk from Robin Hoods Bay - ideal for family holidays or short breaks. Marmion comfortably sleeps seven people in one double, one triple and one twin bedroom. A cot and high chair are available free of charge. On street parking is available in front of Marmion and nearby in the village. Our rates are inclusive of gas, electric, bed linen and logs for the open fire. Full week bookings (commencing Fridays) and short breaks and long weekends are welcome (minimum of three nights) and are available all year round.
The accommodation is provided over four floors. Seven steps lead into the entrance hall which retains an original feature arch and leads to the main staircase. The main hall also goes through to small landing area which leads to the rear entrance. From the entrance hall on the ground floor, a door leads to the spacious Lounge. The Basement Contains, a spacious farmhouse style kitchen with bay window to the front of the property. Having a ceramic tiled floor and beamed ceiling, the kitchen comfortably seats seven and is well equipped with gas range cooker (two ovens), microwave, fridge-freezer and other kitchen equipment such as food processor and filter coffee maker, etc. Playroom Next to the kitchen a simply furnished room (two seater settee and child's play table) a play room with ceramic tiled floor. The washer is located in this room. Ground Floor A spacious Lounge with open log burning fire (original marble fire surround) and polished stripped pine floor. There is a colour TV with video recorder, a CD/radio player and a selection of board games for winter evenings. To the front of the room there is a lovely bay window which lets the light flood in. There are also a further two window to the side of the room which give it a lovely open feel. There is also a cloakroom with toilet and wash basin on the ground floor. First Floor The front double bedroom :- a lovely sunny bedroom in warm Mediterranean colours - this bedroom has pine fitted wardrobe and cupboards, a lovely double pine sleigh bed and colour TV. The view from the window is across the village out to the sea and you can see from the Ravenscar headland down to the bay itself. The children's bedroom :- A bright and airy room with a "water world" theme. Sleeping three children this bedroom has a full size set of bunk beds and single divan bed as well, fitted cupboards and a chest of drawers. The view from the window is across fields up the hill side. You will also find the bathroom on this floor, with a toilet, hand basin and bath with hand shower. Top Floor A further flight of steps leads to the top floor where you will find spacious twin / double bedroom with stunning views over Robin Hoods Bays and towards Ravenscar this pretty bedroom has twin beds, Victorian wash hand stand and ample, fitted wardrobes (stripped pine doors) with drawers within. Outside Marion has a lovely little sun terrace at the front, which gets very hot in high summer, there are chairs and an umbrella to keep the sun at bay. There is a small back yard behind the Marmion with a bench seat. The rose next to the front door according to locals is as old as the house itself. It is nice to just sit on the front steps in the evening and watch the world go by.
Beaches Local beaches include Robin Hoods Bay, Boggle Hole within 15 minutes walking time, Whitby and Scarborough are 5 and 15 miles away respectively. Surfing Surfing takes place at Sandsend and Scarborough south beaches. Walking Robin Hoods Bay is one end of the coast to coast walk and the Opportunities for walking in the surrounding areas are endless from the footpaths. There is the footpath/cycle track along the old Whitby to Scarborough Railway which follows the edge of the coast on most of its route. Bikes can be hired from just up the road in Hawsker. Children's Activities There are several leaflets in the cottage about various theme parks etc. Scarborough is full of attractions, there is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and miles of beaches. Pubs/Eating out On your doorstep, The Fylingdales Inn in the village is a great local with a choice of ales and some lovely meals on the menu. In Robin Hoods Bay their are four other pubs to choose from, we recommend the Victoria for the food. |
