North Carolina is a state that is located in the southern portion of the United States. There are a number of attractions here for those who enjoy nature, and some of them are the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, as well as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Unlike many states, North Carolina is a great place to travel year around. Like many summer states, the weather can become quite warm during the summer months, but for the most part, North Carolina has a mild climate. However, the high level of humidity can be dangerous for those who are ill or elderly.
Because North Carolina is located on the southeastern coast of the United States, it has a number of beaches available. The beaches are excellent for those who enjoy swimming, and visitors can typically enjoy these beaches until October. The Blue Ridge Mountains are a great attraction during fall, and the foliage in this area is said to be exceptionally beautiful. During the winter months, the mountains of this state become great spots for skiing. People who have traveled to southern states will be familiar with the culture that can be found in North Carolina. Despite this, North Carolina also has many influences from the Northern states as well.
Outside of the major cities, there are very few public transportation systems. Most journeys must be made via car, and this may be on roads which are not paved. In addition to this, there are many places in North Carolina that cannot be accessed via a car. Those who enjoy history will want to see The Lost Colony, a centuries old mystery that deals with the disappearance of a group of colonists who had recently arrived in the region. Charlotte is the largest city in the state, and there are a number of sporting events that can be seen there.
