What to do on Your Next Hiking & Camping Trip?

When planning your next family outing at a vacation home rental, there are several activities that you and your family can part-take in besides the usual shopping spree at an outlet store or mall. Unlike the traditional hotel, a vacation home offers several perks such as fishing, bike riding, hiking and camping.
Hiking and camping is not only an adventurous activity but it can provide exercise and interest for people of any age. During a vacation, especially one that consists of hiking and camping unexpected things can happen. The best way to help guarantee a good time for your family is to plan ahead of time and to follow safety precautions.
Make sure you have the skills needed for camping or hiking adventure. When starting a camping fire, no matter how many times you have done this, make sure that you abide by the safety rules to insure the safety of you and your family. Make sure that you start your camping fire in an open area and not surrounded by low trees.
If it is a windy day and your fire doesn’t seem to want to stay kindled, never use gasoline or other flammable chemicals. Adding fuel to your fire can cause a major disaster. You wouldn’t want to be on the 11:00 news or be the cause of a major forest fire.
When barbequing burgers, chicken, hot dogs and other foods, make sure that you always clean your grill after cooking and make sure that everyone pitches in to clean up the camping area. Remember, food attracts unwanted animals such as skunks and even worse, bears.
If you or any of your family members suffer from medical conditions, make sure that you discuss your traveling plans with your family doctor and get his or her approval before departing. You wouldn’t want to spend your entire vacation inside of a hospital.
If your trip will entail strenuous activity such as hiking, get into good physical condition before setting out. If you plan to climb or travel to high altitudes, make plans for proper acclimatization to the altitude and don’t forget to invest in the proper gear. If you are hiking, make sure that you leave your favorite cologne or perfume at home and bring along skin repellant against mosquitoes and make sure that you wear comfortable sneakers, preferably, hiking shoes.
