Bringing Your Vacation Memories Home

Your summer vacation may be a day trip that keeps you close to home in
vacation rental or you
might be planning a month in Europe in
holiday home. In either case there will
be memories made that need to be preserved.
Tourists have always wanted souvenirs to help them remember their vacations.
Some times this is just something inexpensive that will only be around for a
short while, but others will be life long keepsakes.
If you plan on framing your vacation memories you will need to choose a frame that fits
the theme of the souvenir. Items from a beach, such as seashells and sand
dollars, usually look best in a driftwood frame or one that is painted with
pastel colors.
Collages have become popular in recent years with people putting as many as ten
photos in one frame. Often these photos will tell a story that you will remember
for many years to come.
Here are a few tips for those who are getting ready for their vacation:
- Take a lot of pictures while on vacation. By taking a lot of pictures you will have a greater
selection to choose from. This can also eliminate disappointment from that bad
picture that didn’t turn out as expected.
- Pictures are the number one most desirable item for vacation memories. All of
your vacation pictures will contain memories. Displaying them correctly is the
key to getting the most out of them. If you stayed in vacation rental,
make picture of every bedroom with comments.
- Try grouping several pictures together using a mat. Add the children’s
handprints and put a small script under the picture to remind you where the
picture was taken on vacation.
- Save mementos such as ticket stubs, playbills, and photos taken outside of the
theater you visited on vacation. This allows you to tell a story with your mementos.
- Use a digital camera to take your travel pictures then load them on your computer.
You can set up a slide show that uses your pictures as a screen saver or you can
just watch it when you desire.
- Collect small items such as shot glasses or salt and pepper sets. Designate
one corner in your home to display your collection.
- Vacation memories don’t have to be expensive. Some of them are free such as
matches from restaurants and hotels. You can either frame all of them together
or you can cut them up and make them into a decoupage backdrop to show off your
other photos.
- Mugs are another great vacation souvenir. You can find them that are stamped
with the name of the place you visited or you might find a one of a kind made by
local artists. Ask the owner of your vacation home for recommendation.
- Choose works of arts which are made by local crafters such as baskets,
pottery, or jewelry. Chances are this will be something different from the
things you can buy at home.
- You might be able to find a coffee table book which was put together by a
local author. These books usually contain a large number of pictures and sights
around the local area. These can often stimulate your memory for several years.
- Consider a Christmas ornament to hang on the tree. Your Christmas tree could
be a reminder of all of your enjoyable vacations.
- Create a vacation scrapbook. Scrapbooking is all of the rage these days and you can be
very creative with your displays. You can make a different scrapbook for each
vacation or you can combine all of your vacations into one large book. This is a
great way to permanently preserve all of those vacation memories.

How about post cards? We buy post cards every time we are on vacation. They are cheap and don't fade away. I think this is a good way to preserve memories.
