Tips to Keep Your Holiday Travel on Schedule without Losing Your Sanity

by Vacation Rentals By Owner
Tuesday, December 18, 2007

You can count yourself lucky if you are only planning to travel across town to Grandma’s house for Christmas. There are only a few days left before Christmas vacation and people everywhere are doing a mad dash to the shopping malls to buy their gifts in time to ship them to family members for Christmas.

When I was a child we usually only had about a ten minute drive by car. As an adult I now realize the horror of trying to travel at this time of year. The train, flying, or driving is stressful because of the increased traffic of the season. Many people end up sleeping on the floor of the airport because of flight delays.

If you choose to wait until Christmas day to travel it actually gets better because the roads and the airports are practically empty. You might want to plan to eat at the Waffle House because very few places are open where you can get a good meal.

A much better idea would be to find a vacation rental in the area you plan to visit and take a much deserved family vacation. Vacation rentals are usually available in most areas and will already be furnished with everything except your clothes and food. You can plan your travel on days when the roads are not so congested. Here are a few more tips for you to consider if you plan to travel over the Christmas holidays.

  • If possible avoid flying on weekends since is the time when airlines are the busiest.
  • Book an early flight to avoid the rush.
  • Weather is an unknown so you need to allow enough time to arrive on time if you encounter bad roads.
  • Try flying out of a smaller airport. The extra drive time might well be worth the time you save on flight delays.
  • Leave yourself enough time to find parking.
  • When traveling by car try to get an early start and pack plenty of snacks. You also might want to plan an alternate route in case you encounter bad weather.

With a little planning your Christmas travel plans can be enjoyable and allow you to spend the holidays with your family and loved ones.

  • Best Budget Vacation Destinations for 2008  Saturday, December 29, 2007
Whether it be Rome or Las Vegas, this travel forecast gives prospective travelers the information they need to plan their next vacation destination. In January vacation rentals are cheaper if you plan to travel to Greece. Usually you can expect a 68% savings. Vacation rentals in Hawaii are cheaper in the spring as compared to peak summer rates. November in Lake Tahoe offers some good vacation rental rates and you will get to take advantage of the early snowfall. While there are no hard and fast rules to go by, you can take a look back at the previous year and take a look at the most popular budget destinations. You can look at the data from month to month to determine where the best value for vacation rentals is. The average is determined by finding the highest vacation rentals and comparing them to the lowest priced rentals. This will give you an average vacation rental price. Vacation rentals in Athens, Greece are the lowest in January. Travelers will get to enjoy the downhill and cross-country skiing if they venture outside the city.

  • Vacation Homes in Lake Tahoe: A Luxury Real Estate Report  Thursday, December 06, 2007
Location is the key issue in real estate. If you are not on the lake you will want to be as close as you can to the resort where you plan to ski. Lake Tahoe traffic can be horrendus during the peak months and there is no way to predict the road conditions. It is not unusual to find yourself snowed in with snow up to the front door. There is no clear winner when it comes to top locations when buying a home in Nevada versus California except for the lakefront properties. Nevada does have better tax legislation over California.
