Travel insurance for pregnant women

by Chloe Bryan-Brown
Tuesday, February 05, 2008

Looking for perfect vacation rental while expecting? Going for a vacation is something everyone looks forward to during vacation time. However when traveling to unknown and new destinations, it is always better to carry travel insurance with you. And if you are pregnant, it is safer and better to have some insurance before you leave for your vacation home destination.

It is easier to get insurance for someone in the first few months of pregnancy than in the later months of pregnancy. However there are some places that do provide policies for such insurance like PHA Travel Club of www.phatravel.com that insures a woman up to the 32nd week of pregnancy.

Their contention is that they provide insurance up to 32nd week of pregnancy, for a week to the US at rates starting from 33 pounds. However the woman should not be in her 32nd week of pregnancy when returning from the vacation.

Other insurance companies provide policies that insure women only uptil their 28th week of pregnancy. And if it is a multiple pregnancy, the coverage is for a shorter period. With this insruance, they can claim for losses not related to pregnancy while they are not covered if they cancel their holiday or incur losses because of their condition.

However before you actually book travel insurance, it is better to check with your airline to find out if they are willing to carry you. This is because many airlines carry pregnant women upto 28 weeks of pregnancy, and less for multiple pregnancies. For later pregnancies, they usually require a doctor’s certificate.
